Not About The Fur
by Catherine Etheredge

Good, not good enough
The kitty sleeps but the tongue is rough

Skin keeps sliding off is what you see
Leaves you with only the memory

It sleeps to dream . . .

The leash that holds the breath beneath the skin of your neck
The driver that pulls you from the wreck

De-clawed and sent out into the street
Dug a whole with no defeat

It sleeps to dream . . .

The cat’s eyes are closed
Behind eyelids what no one knows

It sleeps to dream . . .

Helen
by Hayley Eiden

Helen is my friend
With long and golden hair
She’s a real smart girl
Though she never tells

She often laughs out loud
To help her hide her tears
A boy has stolen her heart
And she’s not thinking clear

Helen has a broken heart
And I can’t fix it on my guitar
So I’ll paint a picture of her ex-boyfriend
And we’ll tear it up to pieces
And we’ll both pretend that he’s dead
Helen has a broken heart

Helen doesn’t like to be
The girl who everyone knows
She listens to ‘80s rock in her broke-down car

All the guys think she’s so cool
Because she’s so for real
Helen often cries at night
Because she is scared

How can I tell her she will survive
What in the world will dry Helen’s eyes
Who knows Helen what can I say
Someday you won’t think of what’s his name

Helen is my friend
With long and golden hair
She really likes this song
And I am well aware

A Picture
by Lacy Kilty

We went for a ride out from the city
where everything is not so busy
I told you close your eyes
Don't want to ruin the surprise
Up into the hill ‘til telephone poles
turned into trees and houses few and far between
'til there's no more cars on the road
The sun swam in blue water skies
This place still haunts me
it never will be the same
It was my own mine and mine alone.
Perfect timing open your eyes
Look out on the horizon at the world so far away
somewhere children play
somewhere friends are being made
And some body's wishing they would have stayed
This place is magic
I saw the world in your eyes
This place still haunts me
It never will be the same
It was my own mine and mine alone

Growing Up
by Locky Samountry

Sitting at home, not a care in the world
Wasting my time with the tube
Not worrying about any bills or thrills
Just going with the flow.
Eating what I want
Watching what I want
Going where I want
Living Free
Just going with the flow.
Growing up
you can't run away
You will have responsibility some day
If you don't open your eyes
life will past you by
Just going with the flow.
So plant your mind in the right place
get on up, get it straight,
Plant your mind in the right place
and the flow will follow you.

Monkey
by William Inglehar

She's my monkey
And I love her
She’s kind of funky
With no fur

She’s my monkey
Yes it’s true
Hey, listen monkey
I love you

Hey little monkey
Dance and shout
Hey little monkey
With no doubt

Hey little monkey
Don’t you cry
These things happen
I don’t know why

Hey little monkey
I love you so
I hope these feelings
Will never go

You’re my monkey
Dance and shout
Hey little monkey
With no doubt

You’re my monkey
‘Til death do us part
I really love you
With all my heart

You’re my monkey
Through thick and thin
Open your heart
Let me in

No More Rhymes
by Misty Blachly

Scenes fly
Straight through my mind
Heart stopped by distance
Reset by time

I rest on the ground
I stopped this time
I look to the moon

Absence makes the heart grow fonder
Into the naked trees I wander
Absence makes the heart grow fonder
In my secret thoughts I ponder

Now no more rhymes
I’ve done enough
I’ve served my time
and time can be tough

Alone

Scenes fly
Straight through my mind
Heart stopped by distance

Screaming
by Joel Gorder

I kill you in my head
I know just what you said
I won’t deny at night, it’s why I cry
Red and black in bloom
Screaming in my head
Screaming in my room

Taking things I can’t get back
Falling quick and losing slack
I don’t want to break the glass
I don’t want to break this peace
But you’ve pushed me past the point of meek…

Don’t pretend this is the way it will end
On a bed of fire, bed of rage
It’s too early, too early an age

See my hatred pierce the air
Lightning fast so I know you’ll be there
I know just what you said
I kill you in my head

Snow
by Ty Willard

It falls so fast
It vanishes slow
I wish it would last
Forever shine and glow
Snow
When the world is light
I want to fly
Like a kite
Soaring to a height so high
Snow
Winds will change
With no reason
No one can sense
Season by season

Waited
by Ben Jordan

Somewhere on this hollow sphere you exist
Thoughts of hopelessness I fight to resist
An empty quiver, all the arrows missed
A fairy tale ending that sprinkles down with the mist

Need a bodyguard, protect my thoughts
Preventive measure or my mind sits and rots
For now I’ll hide behind my mask
Leaving questions that people are afraid to ask

I’ll let you walk all over me.
Leave a footprint on my soul
This impression for all to see
Enriches me, making me whole

What can be the excuse.
To make sense of this abuse?
Dig deeper to find that fatal flaw
That left me feeling cold and raw

Insomnia
by Brandon Bonner

Insomnia, no sleeping
Wide awake and dreaming
Dreaming of the girl who I adore
When sleeps come on this night
Wish I may, wish I might
Dream of her all night and evermore

Insomnia, tick tick tick tick
Insomnia, tick tick tick tick
Apparently sleep is a luxury
Insomnia, tick tick tick tick
Insomnia, tick tick tick tick
I’ll just stay up and watch some bad tv

Staring at your picture
I thought I saw you fidget
I think that I’ve become delusional
The sheep that I was counting
All died from exhaustion
Hallucination has become a usual

Insomnia, tick tick tick tick
Insomnia, tick tick tick tick
Apparently sleep is a luxury
Insomnia, tick tick tick tick
Insomnia, tick tick tick tick
I’ll just stay up and watch some bad tv

One AM, I can still get five more hours
Two AM, I can still get 4 more hours
Three AM, I can still get three tonight
Four AM, *&#$@!  I’ll just stay up and write

Walking Away
by Kailina Laureta

You turned around and walked away
Didn’t care to stay, with this family you’ve made
Never called or stopped by to see how things are
Just turned around and walked away
You walked away, didn’t care to stay
You just walked right out
You walked away, didn’t care to stay
You just walked right out of me
We used to play,  and got out all the time
Do what ever we wanted it was just a game
But I was still at the start when you hit the end
Now you’re finished with me and I just stand wondering
You walked away, didn’t care to stay
You just walked right out
You walked away, didn’t care to stay
You just walked right out of me
Now you’re back and want to know
What’s been goin' on with my life that you left
But I’m gonna walk away, I don’t care to stay
Not gonna try to look back
I’m gonna walk away, I don’t care to stay
it’s my turn to walk right out of you
Yeah I’m gonna walk right out of you

Ignorance
by Tibby Bec

How about expanding that box you're living in?
how about the fact you're not always right?
how about me I'm not always wrong you know
is this the way life is supposed to go?

Stay in my box
He's usually right
Stay in my box here
in the land of Ignorance

You speculate that I lack experience
you say you have so much experience
what about me don't I have a voice in this?
full of despair drowning in your influence

Stay in my box
He's usually right
Stay in my box here
in the land of Ignorance

When he is right he pays
when I am wrong he still pays
when this is done, will either one of us remain
When you are right I am left unaffected I
don't even care I'm so disconnected I
wanna run to the corners of my mind
sit in the dark pretend I am blind to this

Stay in my box
He's usually right
Stay in my box here
in the land of Ignorance
better keep you're eye on the lid keep it locked down tightly
better keep you're eye on the lid keep it locked down

Last Chance
by Katie McIntosh

Dreams and hopes just fade away
Heartless lies, can’t play these games
Premonitions left a mystery
Interpret obscure memories

Suffocated by the aftertaste
Those words, these thoughts were all a waste
Heads or tails the dice were tossed
Ignorance quit before it lost

One more chance
One last time
One more heart ache
One last try

Just one last try

Just one more chance
To learn and forgive
Secrets revealed
One life to live

Dreams and hopes just fade away
Heartless lies, can’t play these games
Premonitions left a mystery
Interpret obscure memories

One more chance
One last time
One more heart ache
One last try

Feliz
by Debra Flores

Felíz
Pensaste que me íba a doler
Pues estabas equivocado
Sabes me hiciste un favor marchándote?
Fíjate que ya no sufro
Pues ya lo ves  - ya lo ves
Que estoy felíz - que estoy felíz
Y yo se que nunca me quisiste
Que nunca deramé lágrimas por tí,
Y hoy ya se lo que es vivir
Ya puedo respirar aire puro
Ya puedo gritar que nunca te amé
Pues ya lo ves - ya lo ves
Que estoy felíz - que estoy felíz
Y con otro que vale la pena
Pues ya lo ves - ya lo ves
Que estoy felíz - que estoy felíz
Ya lo ves - ya lo ves
Que estoy felíz - que estoy felíz
Y con otro que vale la pena
Porque tu no vales the pena
Pensastes que me iba a doler X 3
Felíz

Happy
You thought it would hurt me,
Well, you were wrong.
You know you did me a favor leaving?
Understand that I am not suffering.
Well now you see - now you see,
That I'm happy - I'm happy.
And I know that you never loved me.
I never spilled tears for you,
And today I know what it is to live.
I can breathe clean air and
I can shout that I never loved you.
Well now you see - now you see
That I'm happy - I'm happy
And with another that's worth the trouble
Well now you see - now you see
That I'm happy - I'm happy
Well now you see - now you see
That I'm happy - I'm happy
And with another that's worth the trouble.
Because you aren't worth the trouble.
You thought it would hurt me X 3

Mr. Green
by Rachelle Coe

Sitting in class and wondering why
If I eat Mr. green, will I choke and die
Everyone would stare, and laugh and cry
She chokes on a jelly bean, oh my

Mr. green jelly bean want to eat you ‘cause your good
Mr. green jelly bean want to eat you ‘cause your good
Yummy, yummy in my tummy
Ate you up and now your gone

The nurse cam over and she had to help me
I was choking an a jelly bean cause I ate too many
I said I was fine and got up off the floor
Then I popped a Mr. green in and ran out the door

Mr. green jelly bean want to eat you ‘cause your good
Mr. green jelly bean want to eat you ‘cause your good
Yummy, yummy in my tummy
Ate you up and now your gone

Jelly beans in my pocket
Count ‘em 1,2,3
Blue ones, red ones, my oh me
Jiggling in my pocket
Hey what’s that sound
Mr. green jelly bean jumping around

Sitting in class and wondering why
If I eat Mr. green, will I choke and die
Everyone would stare, and laugh and cry
She chokes on a jelly bean, oh my

Mr. green jelly bean want to eat you ‘cause your good
Mr. green jelly bean want to eat you ‘cause your good

Jefecito
by Oliver Perez

Every time I think of you Jefecito
I remember the problems you paid
for the things you'd done
when you were a jovencito
I'm glad you laid the boundary line
Just like that old saying says
smile now cry later
is an experience you had
now teaching me it was bad
Thanks to you Jeff
I will never put you down
because us Mexicans have it hard

Sail the Calm Sea
by Chris Williams

Sail the calm sea
I will sail again
Cool breeze blowing
I will sail again
Waves build
Clouds gather
Boat sinks
Wind is gone
I will sail again
I will sail again
Water dark engulfs me
I will sail again
I can’t die yet
I will sail again
Deep down I know
I can get through
Won’t forget
I can get through
I will sail again

Thought You Should Know
by  Joseph Quijada

I used to think about forever
But now I know you so much better
I wish I could've found out and never
got tangled and tripped on your whatever
it caused me pain knowing what you were about
it made me want to run
fly just to get out
to be free from all of me you had
the lies games and pain I couldn't stand
Thought you should know
Thought you should know
Thought you should know
Thought you should...
Now flowed as far as it can go
I just wanted to show and let you know
that your pain caused the puddle of my heart
and made the puddle into art
The last time I saw you seemed like
no change
you smiled and acted to be the same
I had no idea what you were about to do
I care too much to do the same to you
Thought you should Know
Thought you should know
Thought you should know
Thought you should... x4
I thought we'd grown into something definite
something within it's own class of intent
all the things you said you meant
I put to rest no save attempt
Thought you should know
(now that you are in my past)
Thought you should know
(a piece is missing that you cast)
Thought you should know
(I now try to reshape my heart)
Thought you should know
(and thought you should know you made this art)

Senior Year
by Jesse Forsgren

As time goes on
We’ll go our ways
But looking back we will remember
All those times
That we got smashed together
Waking up in unknown locations

Wonderin’ how we got here
Drownin’ in another beer
Flushin’ out all our fears
Another day we’re no more clear

Another night we’ll all forget
Another joke that we didn’t get
Go to school bored and tired
Go to work, sent home fired
Was it all worth it
To blind eyes yes
At first it seemed
This year was one of the best

I awakened to find
That things aren’t as they seem
I realized I had been living a dream
Feelings transparent
Values apparent
Choices change as well as all my friends

And now I drink Pepsi as the cards are dealt
And out flies my first as my sorrow melts
Reaching farther than ever towards my goals
The heavens and the stars have begun to unfold

And now I know without a doubt
As I put my future to the test
Now!
This year was one of the best

Chronic Procrastination
by Nate Hellman

Drag myself awake to a 9-hour school day
Sitting at the desk I don’t know what to say
Major project due, throw my bag on the floor
I don’t want to think of school no more

Turn on the TV, go out for a walk
Call up a friend and begin to talk
Just to find something that gives me joy
All the work and no play make Jack a dull boy

I can’t focus on education ‘cause I got chronic procrastination
Put it off! Put it off!
I’m not done
Put it off! Put it off!
It’s time to have fun!

Pick my girlfriend up and go to the movies
Don’t you worry Mom later I’ll do these
I grab my guitar and start to jam
I look at my grades Oh damn!

I’m a senior now graduation is near
It probably would be best if I got myself in gear
But what was that I heard you say?
Meet you at the mall I think I may!

I can’t focus on education ‘cause I got chronic procrastination
Put it off! Put it off!
I’m not done
Put it off! Put it off!
It’s time to have fun!

Got to Go
by V.G.

Sometimes the world can be intense
Makes me want to get out
Faster than the speed of light
The ground is shaking, breaking
Beneath my feet
Into a place filled with forgotten souls
I've got to go
Strangers giving me the look
Stabbing at my naked eyes
Thinking of nasty visions
Visions to make me go away
I can't take it anymore
I can't take it anymore
Everybody's shouting
Got to cover my ears
My mind is running away
Away with the noise
Now they're chasing me
They're chasing me
Got to go
My mind is turning
Got to go
I have to make it stop
Got to go
Everything is out of control
Got to go
My head is 'bout to pop
They're gaining on me
I can feel it
What's right ahead of me
So bright and inviting
Will it keep me safe
There's no where else to go
So beautiful
They disappear

Listening
by Dan Shank

The hours of my days
Go slipping away
Slipping away
On they slide into the past
Happy moments
Never last
It's all the same song
Never right, never wrong
Life is short, life is long
Listen to life's song
People come, people go
What they will do
You never know
Will we ever find a way
To break the silence
That we embrace?
It's all the same song
Never right, never wrong
Life is short, life is long
Listen to life's song
If you do, if you don't
Will it matter?
Take a chance, take the lead
Find out what it is you need
It's up to you to take a try
To reach that dream
That's way up high
It's all the same song
Never right, never wrong
Life is short, life is long
Listen to life's song
